RFID in waste collection

Improvement-it realized a new project in cooperation with Stichting Afvalstoffen Vaardocumenten Binnenvaart (SAB).

This project registrates waste collection by using innovative NFC RFID technology. The waste removal is registered by reading the user NFC card and entering the amount of waste taken by the collector via an RFID enabled PDA.

A cloud based solution arranges all waste registrations and payments. As NFC chip the latest NXP NTAG203 chip has been selected in combination with a DOT300 RFID enabled PDA.

Within Improvement-it we have a lot of experience in realising RFID solutions that count. From our experience we want to share our knowledge with you. Today we will share the 10 main lessons learned in realizing RFID projects.

RFID lessons

  1. Define a clear company (logistics)vision, and derive RFID project objectives from it
  2. Only start any RFID project with some obvious added value in it
  3. Typical RFID project roll-out takes at least 1 year
  4. Existing operational process issues will not be solved by just adding RFID to you assets
  5. Involve operational staff from day 1 in the project
  6. Do not just focus on RFID technology, involve the entire organization and their processes
  7. Provide back-up scenarios (also RFID technology fails sometimes)
  8. Manage the business change towards your employees (small steps may have huge impact)
  9. Think about handling large amounts of data
  10. Choose experienced business partners, we know a good one

The system saves costs, improves service and provides opportunities for the future with your mobile phone to search for the right book.
