Zigbee mesh sensor network module

Zigbee is an open standard for wireless communication between devices over short distance. The technology is meant to be a supplement to existing technologies as WiFi and Bluetooth. It is simpler and less expensive then technologies such as Bluetooth. The main applications can be found in low-power sensor networks. Applications include wireless light switches, electrical meters with in-home-displays, and other consumer and industrial equipment that requires short-range wireless transfer of data at relatively low rates.

Zigbee and RTLS

The Zigbee technology seems to be a perfect base to build a tracking and tracing system on. RTLS stand for Real Time Location System. Via a reader network it is possible to determine the location of an object. Objects can be monitored over large area’s. The network installation is as easy as plug and play and the mesh structure is created automatically. The mesh structure creates a redundant network. If one node of the network fails, another automatically takes over. The technology is extremely useful for schools, hospitals and prisons.

Zigbee sensors

Zigbee sensors are known for their extremely low power consumption. The system can perfectly operate next to your existing WLan (Wifi) system. Sensors are available in many shapes and sizes.
